Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: The benchmark indices ended near the day’s high on reports of the US nearing a deal with Iran to end the ongoing war. The Sensex rose 941 points to close at 77,959, while the Nifty gained 298 points to settle above the 24,300 mark at 24,331, aided by gains in financial heavyweights, Bharti Airtel Ltd. and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
Broader markets outperformed the benchmarks, with the Nifty Midcap Index climbing 1,062 points to 61,323, while the advance-decline ratio on the NSE stood at 3:1 in favour of advances. The Nifty Bank index surged 1,434 points to end at 55,981.
Among stocks, Coforge Ltd. jumped 10% after strong Q4 results, while Wockhardt Ltd. extended gains for a second day with a 13% rally. Firstsource Solutions Ltd. rose 12%, and Arvind Fashions Ltd. gained 10% following their quarterly earnings.
InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. emerged as the top Nifty gainer, rising over 6%, while Larsen & Toubro Ltd. slipped more than 1% after its Q4 results missed estimates.
Oil marketing companies gained after Brent crude fell below $102 per barrel, while upstream oil companies declined. SRF Ltd. gained 8%, and Hero MotoCorp Ltd. rose over 1% on positive management commentary. Meanwhile, Exide Industries Ltd. fell over 2% after the company flagged rising commodity costs and indicated possible price hikes.
