REGULATORS have issued a warning about an entity making false claims about being based in Jersey in a bid to obtain money from members of the public.
The Jersey Financial Services Commission issued a statement yesterday to highlight the unauthorised activity of Sky Dove Finance, which it described as a “scam entity”.
Sky Dove Finance had never, the Commission confirmed, been registered, nor applied for registration, under the relevant Jersey banking and supervisory bodies laws, meaning that its activity in seeking to take deposits from Islanders was against the law.
A rise in scams and unauthorised business has been noted by the JFSC recently, with criminals pretending to be government authorities, financial regulators, well known organisations or friends and family members in a bid to promote their activities.
The scams often involve the use of real names, cloned websites, copied branding and AI-generated images in a bid to pressure people into transferring money or sharing personal information.
Islanders have been urged to protect themselves by stopping to consider any approach before responding, checking who they are dealing with and never sharing personal or financial information with someone they don’t know.
Anyone who thinks they have been targeted should contact the commission via its website jerseyfsc.org or by calling 822000, as well as alerting their bank if any payment has been made.
