FDA vaccines chief Prasad to leave agency after one-year stint

    March 6, 20261 Min Read

Investing.com – The Food and Drug Administration’s vaccines and biotech drugs division chief Dr. Vinay Prasad will leave the agency at the end of April, FDA Commissioner Marty Makary said Friday, according to reporting from The Wall Street Journal.

Prasad has led the division responsible for approving vaccines and biotech drugs for approximately one year. Federal health officials are searching for his replacement, Makary said.

Prasad had taken a one-year leave of absence from the University of California, San Francisco, to join the FDA. He had intended to remain at the agency only for the duration of that leave, Makary said in an interview.

Prasad wanted to help implement a series of new policies at the FDA, which have all been announced, Makary said. The commissioner said Prasad has been successful and accomplished significant work during his one-year tenure.

Prasad will depart the FDA at the end of April and federal health officials are conducting a search for his successor.
