    When does the stock market close for New Year’s? Holiday schedule

    Happy New Year’s, traders! We’re coming up on the last stock market holiday of 2025.

    U.S. markets will be closed on Thursday, but what about New Year’s Eve or the Friday after the holiday? Are international markets open?

    The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will close at the normal time on Wednesday, Dec. 31, and reopen the normal times on Friday morning.

    After Thursday, the stock market schedule will be business as usual until the markets close again on Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026.

    Here’s what to know.

    Is the stock market open on New Year’s Eve 2025?

    The New York Stock Exchange will be open for trading at normal hours, 9;30 a.m. ET to 4 p.m., and the usual early and late-trading hours.

    NYSE American Equities, NYSE Arca Equities, NYSE National, and NYSE Texas late trading sessions will close at the usual times.

    Is the stock market open on New Year’s Day 2026?

    No.

    What time does Nasdaq close on New Year’s Eve 2025?

    Nasdaq will be open for normal trading hours on New Year’s Eve.

    What time does the U.S. bond market close on New Year’s Eve 2025?

    The U.S. bond market will close at 2 p.m. ET Wednesday, according to the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association and will remain closed through New Year’s Day.

    What time does over-the-counter trading close on New Year’s Eve 2025?

    Over-the-counter trading, which is done without an exchange, will be open normal hours on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, but will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.

    United States stock market 2026 holiday schedule

    U.S. stock markets will be closed on the following days in 2026:

    • Thursday, Jan. 1: Markets closed for New Year’s Day
    • Monday, Jan. 19: Markets closed for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
    • Monday, Feb. 16: Markets closed for Washington’s Birthday
    • Friday, April 3: Markets closed for Good Friday
    • Monday, May 25: markets closed for Memorial Day
    • Friday, June 19: Markets closed for Juneteenth National Independence Day
    • Friday, July 3: Markets closed for Independence Day (observed)
    • Monday, Sept. 7: markets closed for Labor Day
    • Thursday, Nov. 26: Markets closed for Thanksgiving
    • Friday: Nov. 27: markets close at 1 p.m. ET the Friday after Thanksgiving
    • Thursday, Dec. 24: Markets close at 1 p.m. for Christmas Eve
    • Friday, Dec. 25: Markets closed for Christmas Day

    Are international markets open on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day?

    The holiday schedules for overseas trading are:

    • London Stock Exchange:
      • Wednesday, Dec. 31: Markets start closing at 12:30 London time, or 7:30 a.m. EST
      • Thursday, Jan. 1: Closed for New Year’s Day
    • EuroNext:
      • Wednesday, Dec. 31: Half trading day for Amsterdam, Brussels, Dublin, Lisbon and Paris, closed in Milan and Oslo.
      • Wednesday, Jan, 1: Closed for New Year’s Day
    • Hong Kong Stock Exchange:
      • Tuesday. Dec. 31: No afternoon or after-hours trading session for Non-Holiday Trading Exchange Contracts
      • Wednesday, Jan, 1: Closed for New Year’s Day
    • Shanghai Stock Exchange will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 31, and Thursday, Jan. 1.
    • Tokyo Stock Exchange will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 31, and Thursday, Jan. 1.
