Stock Market Today: Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, Maruti, Tata Motors, and Infosys witness the biggest selloff, falling by up to 4.5%.

The BSE Sensex tumbled 585.67 points to settle at 80,599.91, while the NSE Nifty declined 203 points to 24,565.35.

The BSE Sensex tumbled 585.67 points to settle at 80,599.91, while the NSE Nifty declined 203 points to 24,565.35.

Sensex Today: Indian stock markets on Friday closed on a weaker note for the second day, amid weak global cues, continued FII outflows and renewed US tariff threats. The BSE Sensex tumbled 585.67 points to settle at 80,599.91, while the NSE Nifty declined 203 points to 24,565.35.

On the Sensex, 24 out of 30 companies ended the day in red. Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, Maruti, Tata Motors, and Infosys witnessed the biggest selloff, falling by up to 4.5%. However, Trent jumped 3.24%, followed by other gainers Asian Paint, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Reliance.

In the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap index fell 1.37%, whereas the Nifty Smallcap index declined 1.59%.

Sectoral performance was also bleak with almost all sectors closing in red. The Nifty Pharma index led the losses with a 3.3% drop, followed by the Nifty Metal index, down 1.97%. The IT Index also ended the day lower by 1.85%. Only FMCG closing in green, gaining 0.69%.

Vinod Nair, head of research, Geojit Investments Limited, said, “The Indian equity market extended its decline for a second day, pressured by renewed tariff threats and punitive duties that could undermine India’s global trade competitiveness. Investor sentiment weakened further as FIIs now hold the second-highest net short position in derivatives, reflecting elevated caution. Globally, markets turned negative amid rising U.S. inflation and trade tensions. While the sell-off was broad-based, FMCG stocks emerged as a defensive play, supported by attractive valuations, resilient demand, and relative immunity to external trade disruptions.”

    Technical View

Rupak De, senior technical analyst at LKP Securities, said, “Nifty witnessed another sharp decline as it failed to reclaim the 200-DMA on the hourly chart, despite a strong recovery on Thursday. Throughout the day, the index remained below the 50-EMA on the hourly timeframe.”

On the daily chart, it has broken below the recent consolidation support at 24,600. Sentiment remains weak, with the potential for the correction to extend towards 24,400–24,450. A further decline is likely if it slips below 24,400; otherwise, a recovery can be expected. On the higher side, resistance is seen at 24,600-24,650 and 24,850, he added.
