Stock Market Highlights: The Sensex settled 210 points lower at 78,429, while the Nifty50 fell 159 points to 24,615. Both indices, however, recovered strongly in the final minutes of trade, closing 115 points and 150 points higher, respectively, than their levels before the closing auction.

The Nifty Bank ended 341 points lower at 57,907, while the Nifty Midcap 100 slipped 188 points to 63,492.
The weakness was broad-based, with 35 of the 50 Nifty stocks ending in the red. FMCG stocks remained under pressure after Nestle India’s commentary, dragging Hindustan Unilever and Tata Consumer Products lower. Grasim, HDFC Life, Bajaj Auto, Max Healthcare and Reliance Industries were among the biggest drags on the benchmark.
Among individual stocks, LIC tumbled 9% despite the non-retail portion of its Offer for Sale (OFS) being oversubscribed. UPL lost 6% after its June-quarter earnings failed to impress investors, while Prestige Estates and Oberoi Realty dropped around 4% each as realty stocks came under pressure.
On the positive side, Apollo Hospitals was the top Nifty gainer with a 3% rise, while Hindalco extended its winning streak with another 3% gain. Ather Energy surged 15% after reporting strong quarterly results, KEI Industries jumped over 9% on an upbeat FY27 revenue and margin outlook, and Godfrey Phillips, Exide Industries and Nippon Life India Asset Management gained between 3% and 4%.
