Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Benchmark indices ended higher on Thursday, led by gains in Reliance Industries and financial stocks, even as the broader market remained under pressure with the midcap index declining and market breadth favouring declines.

The Sensex rose 374 points to close at 78,955, while the Nifty gained 11 points to end at 24,636. The Nifty Bank outperformed, advancing 324 points to 58,064, whereas the Nifty Midcap index slipped 278 points to 63,227.

The special Closing Auction Session (CAS) resulted in only modest adjustments compared with the previous three sessions. From the 3:15 pm levels, the Nifty added 8 points, the Sensex gained 169 points and the Nifty Bank rose 56 points.

Reliance Industries climbed 4% and contributed around 80 points to the Nifty’s gains. State Bank of India advanced nearly 3% ahead of its quarterly earnings, while other PSU banking stocks also traded higher.

Bharti Airtel, Power Grid and auto stocks capped gains on the benchmark index. Power Grid ended as the top Nifty loser, falling 4% after reporting weaker-than-expected June quarter results.

Among individual stocks, Trent ended with marginal losses despite reporting a healthy margin beat. Blue Star declined 6% to close at the day’s low after reporting weak quarterly earnings. BSE remained under pressure, falling 3%, while Angel One also ended lower. Hero MotoCorp slipped 2% ahead of its earnings announcement.
