Is Stock Market Open Today, October 20? On the occasion of Diwali, investors are wondering whether the Indian stock markets will remain open or closed today, October 20. Usually, the Diwali day marks a special trading session known as Muhurat Trading, held every year to celebrate the festival of prosperity and wealth. However, this year, the Muhurat Trading will take place tomorrow, October 21, between 1:45 pm and 2:45 pm.

According to the BSE and NSE holiday calendar, the stock markets will remain open as usual today, Monday, October 20, 2025.
The official Diwali holiday for the exchanges falls on Tuesday, October 21, when both BSE and NSE will remain closed for regular trading on account of Diwali Laxmi Pujan. However, on the same day, both exchanges will conduct a special one-hour Muhurat Trading session, a long-standing tradition symbolising auspicious new beginnings and prosperity for investors.
Muhurat Trading 2025 Date and Time
The Muhurat trading session will take place between 1:45 pm and 2:45 pm on October 21, with a pre-opening session from 1:30 pm to 1:45 pm, as per exchange notifications.
The new session also ushers in Vikram Samvat 2082, the Hindu New Year that begins on Diwali. Traditionally, trading during the ‘Muhurat’ session — the auspicious hour — is believed to bring prosperity and financial growth to investors.
Markets To Remain Closed On Wednesday, October 22
Markets will also remain closed on Wednesday, October 22, for Balipratipada, the day following Diwali. Trading will resume on Thursday, October 23.
Upcoming Share Market Holidays 2025
Then, the next stock market holiday will arrive on November 05 on the occasion of Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev. While the last stock market holiday of 2025 will be seen on December 25, 2025 for Christmas.
Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) Holidays
Multi Commodity Exchange has also announced holidays October 21 and October 22 for Diwali Laxmi Pujan and Balipratipada. While MCX will be closed completely throughout the day on October 21, the commodity exchange will open for the evening session on October 22.
It will also conduct Muhurat trading on October 21, 2025.
Diwali Bank Holiday 2025: Are Banks Open Or Closed Today, October 20?
Even though the Indian stock market is open today on Diwali, many bank customers are wondering whether banks are open or closed. As per the RBI’s bank holiday list for October 2025, banks will remain closed in most cities, including Delhi, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. However, banks will be open as usual in a few cities such as Mumbai, Patna, and Jammu on October 20.
