Are Banks Open on Presidents Day? What to Know for 2026

    February 15, 20263 Mins Read

Each year, on the third Monday in February, Presidents Day is observed. Established in 1879, the February holiday is intended to honor George Washington, the first president of the United States.

Through the years, the annual commemoration has expanded to include all U.S. presidents, in recognition of their service to the country.

In 2026, Presidents Day is on Monday, Feb. 16. To mark the occasion, many cities and towns across the country host special events. It’s also a time when retailers take advantage of the three-day weekend to launch special sales and promotions.

Since Presidents Day is a federal holiday, most schools, government agencies and businesses are closed in observance of the day.

But what about financial institutions? Are banks open on Presidents Day?

Whether you need to make a deposit, withdrawal or other financial transaction, you may be wondering about bank hours, as well as if the U.S. stock markets are open for business this Presidents Day.

See below to find if any of the major banks will be open on Monday, along with a list of bank holidays for 2026 so you can plan ahead.
