UK family home for sale for £1 and it’s not far from the city centre or beautiful beaches

As property prices continue to soar it’s great to hear you can still grab a bargain – even if it is in need of a major refurbishment – and a house in Wallsend

The house is located in Mcilvenna Gardens in Wallsend, Newcastle

This two-bedroom semi-detached family home in Newcastle has gone on sale for just £1 but you’ll need to have deep pockets to be able to afford to get it up to scratch.

Photos show the property in Wallsend, North Tyneside is in dire need of modernisation with marks on the walls, debris all around the house and old fashioned blue and orange wallpaper. However, with a lot of care and attention there’s no reason why it couldn’t become someone’s dream home. And if it’s all about location, location, location then this house has a lot more going for it than meets the eye – it’s not far from Newcastle City Centre or nearby beaches of Tynemouth and Whitley Bay in North Tyneside.

Of course it could end up selling for more as the £1 asking price is the starting price at auction. And it has a garden – although this also needs a lot of work – as it looks quite overgrown.

The online advert reads: “Pattinson Estate Agents are pleased to offer this two-bedroom semi-detached property.

“Located on Mcllvenna Gardens the property is well positioned for local amenities such as schools, shops and restaurants.

“The location of this property offers great road links to the coast and Newcastle City Centre. Briefly comprising an entrance, lounge, kitchen and bathroom. To the first floor there are two bedrooms.

“Externally to the rear there is a large private back garden. To the front a small garden and driveway.”

House prices in Newcastle were £234,220 on average during the last year, according to Rightmove.

If you’re thinking of buying a house at auction, it’s important to do your research first to see if the property has any serious issues.

Meanwhile, the Mirror’s data team has crunched the numbers on everything from house prices and crime rates to schools, the NHS and local amenities to discover the best places to live in England – and you can see how your area ranks using our interactive map.

And while several areas of the South West made the top 10 list, you may be glad to know places in Yorkshire and the North West also got their time to shine.

Coming in at number one is Forest of Dean – a part of Gloucestershire named after the ancient woodland that covers much of the district. Also making it into the top 10 are North Yorkshire, Cotswold and Stroud (both also in Gloucestershire), Mid Devon, Wiltshire, West Devon, Torridge and Teignbridge (both in Devon), and Ribble Valley in Lancashire.

To create the rankings, we looked at average house prices , the crime rate, average Attainment 8 and Progress 8 scores at state secondary schools , waiting times to receive NHS treatment and GP ratings.

Additionally, we checked access to local amenities including parks and play areas, pubs, community facilities, post offices and railway stations.
