Jones Homes Yorkshire has appointed a new land buyer as it seeks to secure new development opportunities across the county and beyond.

Avais Sharif, 23, from Huddersfield, has been tasked with identifying new sites in desirable locations across the region to help the housebuilder expand its land portfolio in line with its five-year business plan.

Sharif, a 2024 graduate of Heriot‑Watt University in Edinburgh with an RTPI and RICS‑accredited degree in Urban Planning and Property Development, joins the family‑owned company after actively targeting a role in the housebuilding industry.

He said: “This is my first graduate role, and it utilises and builds upon the skills and knowledge I gained during my degree.

“I was aware that Jones Homes is renowned throughout the construction industry for building exceptional properties, and I am very excited to have been given the opportunity to join the company.

“Since joining, I have been enjoying the supportive and nurturing environment, which truly reflects its family-business values. It is reassuring to know I will be fully supported as I look to progress my career.”

His responsibilities will include searching for quality land parcels with good access to nearby towns and local facilities, building up a network of contacts with landowners, agents and planners from both private companies and local authorities, and evaluating new land opportunities through feasibility reviews and appraisals.

Sharif added: “It is an important and exciting role, and I am looking forward to contributing to the ongoing success of Jones Homes Yorkshire.”

Howard Gray, divisional land director, said: “It is great to welcome Avais on board as a new member of the land-buying team at Jones Homes Yorkshire.

“We have ambitions to expand our portfolio throughout the region and we see Avais as playing a key role in that drive.

“We are seeking opportunities within around an hour’s drive of our divisional office in Cleckheaton, focusing on our core areas of West and South Yorkshire, as well as Selby and just over the border in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

“Our target is organic growth which will enable us to increase or maintain the number of outlets we have in suitable locations for the business.”
