Derelict Helensburgh property sells for £168k at auction

    May 29, 20262 Mins Read

There was no home report or energy rating certificate, but it has had “strong pre-sale interest”.

However auctioneers at Online Property Auction Group were surprised when the property attracted 45 bids on Wednesday, pushing the final price “beyond expectations”.

The four-to-five-bedroom home had a guide price of £145,000 and a minimum opening bid of £125,000.

The auctioneers added that this year properties nearby have sold for between £410,000 and £610,000.

Timothy Lovat, CEO of Online Property Auctions Group, said: “The action began when an opening bid of £125,000 was lodged with us at 9.06am. Within three hours that sum had risen to £138,000.

“We were glued to our screens as the price continued to climb. Then, for a while there was a lull. However, just before 3pm the bidding bounced back with a vengeance.

“During a crazy four-minute spell starting at 2.55pm the price rose 22 times, reaching £163,000. But there was more to come.

“We received six more bids in the next four minutes, pushing the final price up to an astonishing £168,000.

“We had received a great deal of pre-auction interest in this lot, so we had hoped for a bit of a bidding war. However, we were taken aback by the way the day unfolded.

“There were six determined bidders battling it out and the eventual winner had begun with an offer of £141,000, just below our original pre-auction estimate.”
