Unitree’s 629% Moonshot Says China’s Robot Trade Has Entered Orbit

    Unitree’s 629% Moonshot

Unitree Robotics just walked onto the Shanghai exchange and immediately started levitating.

Shares opened 629% above the IPO price after the humanoid robot maker raised $904 million, briefly valuing the company at roughly 445 billion yuan. That is not price discovery. That is the market firing a flare gun over China’s next speculative frontier.

And the message is pretty clear: embodied AI has become the new object of desire.

The numbers explain some of the excitement. Unitree shipped more than 5,500 humanoid robots last year, revenue jumped to 1.7 billion yuan from 393 million yuan, margins are north of 60%, and Beijing has made robotics one of the strategic battlegrounds in the broader AI race. JPMorgan sees global humanoid shipments rising from 60,000 this year to 1.75 million by 2030, with China accounting for more than half of demand.

So there is a genuine industrial story underneath the fireworks.

But 629% on the opening print is where industrial logic hands the baton to animal spirits.

The IPO was already priced at roughly 36 times sales, well above listed Hong Kong robotics peers, and retail demand was enormous. Unitree drew more than 7 trillion yuan of bids, even eclipsing the frenzy around CXMT last month. When that much money is trying to squeeze through a tightly controlled IPO door, the first trade can look less like valuation and more like a rugby scrum.China IPOs

Still, traders should not dismiss the signal.

China spent years chasing the digital AI story. Now capital is rotating toward machines that can actually move, manufacture, deliver and work. Semiconductors were the picks and shovels of the first AI boom. Humanoid robots may be where Beijing wants the next one built.

Unitree’s debut does not tell us the robots are ready to take over the factory floor.

It tells us investors are already fighting over the seats.
