Iran says no delegation sent to Pakistan, talks still suspended

    April 10, 20262 Mins Read

Investing.com– Iran has denied media reports that a negotiating delegation has arrived in Islamabad for talks with the United States, according to local media reports on Friday.

State-linked Tasnim News Agency reported claims that an Iranian team had traveled to Pakistan’s capital for negotiations were “completely false.”

The report added that talks would remain suspended as long as Washington does not uphold commitments related to a ceasefire in Lebanon and Israeli attacks continue.

The denial comes days after Iran and the U.S. agreed to a two-week ceasefire on April 7 following mediation led by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in what had been seen as a diplomatic breakthrough after weeks of conflict.

Islamabad said on April 8 that the truce would apply broadly, including Lebanon, and had invited both sides for further negotiations scheduled for April 10. However, continued hostilities, particularly Israeli strikes in Lebanon, have raised concerns about the durability of the ceasefire.

In a further sign of mixed signals, Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, appeared to have deleted a post on X that had indicated a delegation would arrive in Islamabad ahead of planned weekend talks with U.S. officials.
