More than £230m will be invested in two United Utilities wastewater treatment works in Lancashire, improving water quality in the River Douglas.
The upgrade work will take place at the Warrington-based group’s Wigan and Skelmersdale works, located between the villages of Hoscar and Parbold.
The scheme will ensure United Utilities can meet the demands of a growing population in the area, while also responding to tighter environmental standards.
