IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG), one of the world’s leading hotel companies, announces the signing of InterContinental Manchester – Deansgate, marking the fifth InterContinental in its UK and Ireland portfolio.

Owned by Blue Manchester Hotel Limited, the 264-room hotel is expected to be fully rebranded by 2027, and will remain open to guests in the meantime.

InterContinental Manchester – Deansgate will further cement IHG’s position as the largest global hotel company in the UK and Ireland, where it currently operates 363* open hotels and has 33* in development.

The hotel will also expand IHG’s luxury and lifestyle portfolio in the market, adding to its existing 27* open hotels, including its existing four InterContinental properties – InterContinental London – The O2, InterContinental London Park Lane, InterContinental Edinburgh The George and InterContinental Dublin.

Located in the heart of Manchester, on one of the city’s most historic streets, guests will have several high-end restaurants, retail outlets and a vibrant nightlife all on their doorstep. For business travellers visiting the city, the hotel will be in close proximity to Manchester’s main conference centre and Spinningfields, Manchester’s premier financial and professional services district.

The hotel forms part of the famous 47-storey Beetham Tower – one of the tallest buildings outside of London. Set across 22 floors, InterContinental Manchester – Deansgate will feature a variety of luxury amenities to cater to both leisure and corporate guests.

Following a comprehensive refurbishment, the hotel will include 264 guestrooms, each with undisturbed views of the Manchester skyline, a large ground floor ‘podium’ bar and restaurant. The hotel will also feature an indoor pool, sauna and steam room, and fitness centre. InterContinental Manchester – Deansgate will also feature 18 meeting rooms, with a total event space of 1,821sq, catering to social gatherings and MICE opportunities.

(Mrs) Willemijn Geels, Vice President, Development, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “The signing of InterContinental Manchester – Deansgate marks a significant milestone in our UK&I development strategy as we bring the world’s first and most iconic luxury hotel brand to an important city in the UK. The landmark signing further strengthens IHG’s luxury and lifestyle portfolio in the UK and perfectly complements our Kimpton Clocktower property — reinforcing our position as the leading luxury hospitality player in Manchester.

We are proud to begin our partnership with Blue Manchester Hotel Limited through such a momentous project and look forward to welcoming guests to what promises to be an extraordinary InterContinental experience.”

Blue Manchester Hotel Limited spokesperson, stated: “This transition marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for this iconic Manchester hotel. We are delighted to be collaborating with IHG Hotels & Resorts to reposition the property as an InterContinental hotel—one of the most prestigious brands in global hospitality. The transformation will be supported by significant investment to enhance the guest experience and elevate the hotel to a new standard of luxury. We are confident this next phase will further strengthen the hotel’s reputation as one of the city’s premier destinations.”

InterContinental is undergoing a transformative end-to-end brand evolution, reimaging the luxury travel experience for the modern luxury travel. This evolution is rooted in the brand’s core belief that travel can expand minds and connect cultures.

InterContinental Manchester – Deansgate will join IHG’s fast-growing luxury and lifestyle collection, now the second largest in the world, with more than 105* open hotels and 72* in development across Europe.

The hotel will join 34 InterContinental properties across Europe, including the recently opened InterContinental Chantilly Chateau Mont Royal, and nine pipeline properties, including InterContinental Belgrade which will mark the brand’s return to Serbia after 20 years.
