Utilities specialist on acquisition trail again with North East foray

    March 12, 20252 Mins Read

Chorley-based specialist utilities services provider, Ipsum, has made its latest acquisition with Middlesbrough-based Matrix Power, which will expand its power business in the North East.

Matrix Power has a dedicated inhouse workforce of commissioning engineers, field technicians, cable jointers and cable installers that will build on Ipsum’s existing expertise in the region.

The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, will build on existing capabilities in high voltage electrical power systems including design, equipment installation, cable installation and jointing, commissioning, preventative maintenance and 24/7 emergency call out and repairs.

Matrix also brings nationally-recognised, specialist expertise in the design, installation and commissioning of DC & Light Rail traction power systems, adding to Ipsum’s already extensive portfolio of clients across many market segments.

Andrew Cowan, Ipsum CEO, said: “It’s an exciting period at Ipsum and in the utilities sector, generally. The addition of Matrix Power’s expertise will allow us to expand our existing footprint in the North East and broaden our availability across the North of England and Scotland.”

Neil Guest, Matrix Power CEO, said: “Today marks a new era in our operations and we are excited for what lies ahead.

“We have been working closely with Ipsum to ensure the transition is as seamless as possible for our customers. Becoming part of Ipsum will allow our customers to tap into a whole host of extensive power capabilities, alongside that they have already had access to via Matrix Power.”

In August last year Ipsum acquired Stoke-on-Trent based electrical installation and maintenance contractor, Site Energy, together with its associated training business SES Training Solutions.

It marked the seventh acquisition in its power division and ninth overall.
