    Share Market Today: Sensex, Nifty set to open in green; GIFT Nifty futures up over 150 pts

    Share Market Today, August 16: After a holiday, domestic equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty will likely open positive in today’s (August 16) session. At around 7:00 am, GIFT Nifty futures, an early indicator of the Nifty50 index, were up 154 points or 0.64 per cent at 24,329 ahead of opening on Dalal Street.

    Global Markets Update: US and Asian stocks higher

    Both US and Asian markets indicated positive zones, Nasdaq ended higher, up 2.34 per cent, and MSCI Asia ex Japan is up 1.12 per cent.

    Here’s a look at all the global key indices:

    • MSCI Asia ex Japan up 6.25 points or 1.12 per cent at 564.71
    • Japan’s Nikkei 225 up 1086 points or 2,96 per cent at 37,813
    • Hong Kong’s Hang Seng up 205  points or 1.21 per cent
    • Nasdaq closed higher, up 401 points or 2.34 per cent at 17,594
    • Dow Jones up 554 points or 1.39 per cent at 40,568
    • S&P 500 up 88 points or 1.61 per cent at 5,548

    Why did US stock market rally?

    • For the first time since March 2021, retail inflation has fallen below 3 per cent
    • A strong increase in July retail sales
    • Fears of an economic recession have subsided
    • Now, interest rates are expected to fall faster and further
    • No negative news emerged regarding Israel-Iran tensions

    On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, domestic headline indices closed in green zone, with Sensex ending higher at 79,105, up 149.85 points or 0.19 per cent, while the 50-share index closed at 24,143, up 4.75 points or 0.02 per cent. Here are the top gainers and losers of the Nifty 50 index:
