A house explosion in Bel Air, Maryland, left a Baltimore Gas and Electric employee dead.
Master Deputy of the Maryland State Fire Marshal Oliver Alkire confirmed that a 35-year-old BGE employee was on the scene at the time of the explosion and is the victim in this tragedy.
Officials said the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association was alerted to an incident regarding a possible house explosion early Sunday morning.
Units arrived on the scene, found a debris field, and immediately began to do fire control as well as search-and-rescue operations.
According to our media partners at The Baltimore Sun and Master Deputy of the Maryland State Fire Marshal Oliver Alkire, first responders were dispatched to the area for reports of a gas leak. Alkire said two workers from BGE were already at the home addressing an electrical issue. The workers were aware of the gas odor and apparent gas leak while they were working on the home. The call then changed from odor of gas to an apparent house explosion, Alkire said.
One other person was assessed and refused transport.
The search-and-rescue operation is ongoing. The origin and cause of the explosion is under investigation.
