Shares of power producers rose amid expectations for a boom in electricity sales.
Vistra shares rose after the electricity-generation company agreed to buy Cogentrix Energy from investment firm Quantum Capital Group, in a $4 billion deal consisting of cash, stock, and debt, adding 10 natural-gas plants. The deal is part of the utility sector’s scramble to respond to a sharp increase in demand for power.
The Department of Energy awarded three $900 million task orders for uranium enrichment to American Centrifuge Operating, General Matter, and Orano Federal Services.
