Utilities Up as Yields Finish Mixed — Utilities Roundup

    March 17, 20251 Min Read

Shares of power producers rose slightly as Treasury yields finished mixed.

The SPDR Select Sector Utilities exchange-traded fund, which tracks the utilities industry group of the S&P 500, is up about 3% for the year, in contrast to a 3% loss for the broad S&P 500.

Unused power lines may have started the deadly Eaton fire in Los Angeles earlier this year, according to investigators at Southern California Edison. Shares of the California utility rose after the report.

It appears that a dynamic storm produced blinding dust, wildfires and deadly tornadoes that whipped through the central and southern U.S. over the weekend, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
