United Utilities appoints Cheshire wastewater lead

    March 25, 20262 Mins Read

Maria Fletcher has been appointed county business lead at United Utilities, where she will oversee services across the county and a team of more than 170 people.

She said: “I’m proud to lead a brilliant wastewater team in Cheshire to deliver improvements to our network.

“We are working at pace to deliver several schemes that will help protect the environment by improving water quality and delivering visible improvements for our customers.”

Ms Fletcher brings more than 24 years of experience to the role and will be responsible for delivering United Utilities’ investment plan for Cheshire over the next four years.

This includes major projects such as a £20 million already invested in upgrading Congleton’s wastewater treatment works and a £48 million scheme to improve the sewer network in Knutsford.

United Utilities is working with key partners to identify renewable energy opportunities at Ellesmere Port.

Ms Fletcher said: “I feel genuinely privileged to help shape the future of wastewater operations across Cheshire as we work towards our shared vision of creating a stronger, greener and healthier North West.”

She has been with United Utilities since last year, previously leading an environmental services team focused on regulatory changes.

Before joining the company, she spent 23 years at BT Openreach, where she managed the delivery of the UK’s national digital fibre upgrade.

Her appointment comes as United Utilities moves forward with a record multi-billion pound investment in water and wastewater infrastructure for the North West.

The company is spending more than £13 billion to improve over 500km of rivers, lakes and bathing waters, while ensuring drinking water supplies are secure for millions of customers.
