Main Street Corridor Project update: Eversource overhead utility line transfer work on schedule

    July 13, 20242 Mins Read

The town on Friday issued an update on the Main Street Corridor Project.

Eversource is nearing completion of its overhead utility line installation work, and its overhead utility line transfer work is on schedule. Crown Castle is next in line to move its overhead wires and is scheduled to be on-site beginning July 15.

“As long as the other utility companies continue to stay on schedule, the overhead relocation work should be completed by the end of September,” according to a statement released by the town. “When this work is complete, Verizon can schedule the removal of the old utility poles west of the Police Station and east of Ash Street. Utility poles from the Police Station to Ash Street can be removed once the new underground infrastructure is operational.”

A construction meeting occurred on July 9 among town staff members and representatives from civil engineering consultant VHB, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, contractor A.F. Amorello and Eversource.

Polar Vortex’s painting crew will continue its work on the signal/pedestrian poles. Work started at the intersection of Wood Street and Route 135 and has now reached the Fire Station. The tentative completion date is Oct. 1. Scheduled hours for this work will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and hours may be adjusted based on traffic flow patterns. Additional locations for repairs include the intersections of Main Street and Commonwealth Avenue, Pleasant Street, Grove Street, Church Street and Hayden Rowe Street, as well as in front of the Fire Station.

A.F. Amorello is planning to be onsite during the week of July 22 to begin work on the south side of the project. Work will include brickwork, sidewalk work, curb work and underground utility connections from the property lines to building foundations and into buildings as required.

Eversource continues to wait for transformers needed to complete the undergrounding of utilities. Supply chain challenges obtaining the transformers remains the reason for the delay.
