All activities canceled at Franklin High School due to water utilities issue

    October 24, 20242 Mins Read

Update: El Paso Water issued the following statement:

“Following reports of discolored water at Franklin High School today, EPWater crews assisted staff to flush the school’s water lines. The utility took water samples and found chlorine readings were at healthy levels, indicating the water is safe to consume. A separate incident with the school’s wastewater system is unrelated to EPWater and is being handled by school staff as a property issue.

The utility is still investigating additional reports of discolored water in parts of west El Paso. In some cases, rusty or dirty water may come from the distribution system as a result of a main break or fire hydrant use. Usually, rusty water will clear after running cold water for several minutes. While discolored water does not create a health risk, out of an abundance of caution, we recommend that the water is not consumed if it’s not clear.”

UPDATE: The El Paso ISD said Thursday Franklin High School will remain closed as they work with El Paso Water to address the issue at the campus.

In a statement the District said, “The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority.”

The District said they will update the parents and staff of the school about whether classes will resume on Friday.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) – The El Paso Independent School District reached out to parents about a “water utility issue” that has resulted in the cancellation of classes for the remainder of the day.

Students will be dismissed at 1 p.m. Parents are urged to make plans to pick up their students by 1 p.m.

The District did advise buses will be running for those who normally take the bus.

All extracurricular activities were also cancelled.
