[Today’s Stock Market Movements of Interest] Oriental Land surges 8.45%! How did the stock price react to the dividend increase and upward revision? A day where Aeon and NTT also rebounded
Friday, October 30, 2026
Stocks that had been falling until yesterday suddenly rise sharply.
When you are investing in stocks, days like this are what make it interesting.
Today was exactly one of those days.
I was particularly surprised by Oriental Land, which I am also watching as a shareholder.
The earnings announcement yesterday, the 29th, revealed an upward revision of earnings forecasts and a dividend increase.
And today, the stock price jumped all at once.
Moreover, both Aeon and NTT also rose.
The three stocks I am watching all ended in the positive.
🔳 How did the stock prices perform on October 30?
Let’s check today’s closing prices on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Stock Closing Price on 29th Closing Price on 30th Rate of Change
Oriental Land 3,170 yen 3,438 yen +8.45%
Aeon 1,168 yen 1,200.5 yen +2.78%
NTT 171.5 yen 173.3 yen +1.05%
All three stocks rose, but Oriental Land’s gain was particularly notable.
It was up 268 yen from the previous day.
Furthermore, it hit 3,450 yen during trading hours, setting a new high for the year.
A stock that had been hovering in the 3,100 yen range just a few days ago moved this much in just one day.
🔳 Oriental Land—From a forecast of profit decline to a record high profit
There is a clear reason for this stock price increase.
It is the interim financial results announced on October 29 and the upward revision of the full-year earnings forecast.
The operating profit forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2027 was raised from the previous approximately 160.8 billion yen to approximately 185.5 billion yen.
The revision is about 24.7 billion yen, an increase of over 15%.
Moreover, it is a turnaround from the previous forecast of a profit decline to an expected 10.1% increase in profit compared to the previous fiscal year.
If realized, operating profit will reach a record high for the first time in two terms.
This is significant.
Events for the 25th anniversary of Tokyo DisneySea are performing well, and both the number of visitors and revenue per guest are expected to exceed initial projections.
The annual visitor forecast was also raised from 28 million to 28.5 million.
In addition, the annual dividend forecast was increased from 16 yen to 18 yen.
The announcement was not just about increasing profits, but also about expanding shareholder returns.
It is understandable that the market reacted favorably.
🔳 Why did the stock price rise today instead of yesterday?
This is the interesting part.
The closing price yesterday, the 29th, was 3,170 yen.
It was only 2 yen higher than the previous day.
However, the financial results were announced at 16:00, after the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s regular trading hours had ended.
In other words, the contents of the earnings announcement were not reflected in yesterday’s closing price.
And then today, the 30th.
Buy orders flooded in, and the opening price was 3,450 yen.
Although there was a moment when it fell to 3,358 yen, the closing price was 3,438 yen.
This is a sharp rise of 8.45% from the previous day.
It was a day that clearly illustrated the difference between the timing of an earnings announcement and the timing of the stock market’s reaction.
🔳 Even so, my unrealized losses remain
Let me share a personal note here.
I purchased Oriental Land at a higher price than it is now.
Therefore, just because it rose more than 8% today does not mean I am immediately making a profit.
The news that the stock price has risen significantly and my own investment performance are two different things.
However, I think this rise is meaningful.
This is because it is based on actual earnings improvement, not just speculation or rumors.
Of course, it is not yet certain whether the upwardly revised profit forecast will be achieved.
Large-scale investments, such as in the cruise business, are also ahead.
I want to look at whether profit growth will continue, rather than just being swayed by short-term stock price fluctuations.
🔳 Aeon also recovers to the 1,200 yen range
Aeon also performed well today.
The closing price was 1,200.5 yen.
This is an increase of 32.5 yen from the previous day, a rise of 2.78%.
After hitting a year-to-date low of 1,101 yen on October 14, Aeon has been fluctuating.
Although it rose significantly on October 23, it fell on the 27th and 28th.
And then it rose again on the 29th and 30th.
They announced increased revenue and profit in their interim financial results.
Furthermore, they are making progress in addressing labor shortages, such as by automating logistics centers.
However, I cannot confirm that these were the direct causes of today’s stock price increase.
For my part, I want to pay attention not only to the appeal of shareholder benefits but also to future improvements in profit margins.
🔳 NTT also rebounds, next is the November 4 earnings announcement
NTT’s closing price was 173.3 yen.
It was an increase of 1.8 yen from the previous day, a rise of 1.05%.
NTT has recently announced various technologies and services, such as voice dialogue AI, cloud, and security.
However, technological achievements do not immediately translate into corporate earnings.
What should be noted is the earnings announcement scheduled for November 4.
How are AI-related initiatives leading to business growth?
And will there be any changes to the shareholder return policy, such as dividends or share buybacks?
This is something I want to check.
🔳 What I learned from this stock price surge
There is something I felt once again this time.
It is that a falling stock price and deteriorating corporate performance are not necessarily the same thing.
Oriental Land had been falling until the earnings announcement.
However, the announced performance exceeded market expectations, and the stock price rebounded significantly in one day.
Of course, the opposite can also happen.
Even if performance is good, if it does not meet market expectations, the stock price will fall.
That is why investors must consider not only the current stock price but also future profits and market expectations.
I myself have failed many times in the past.
There have been times when I bought more thinking it had become cheap, only for it to fall further.
Conversely, there are times when a stock I thought would never rise again suddenly surges.
In the end, it is difficult to accurately predict short-term stock prices.
However, it is possible to continuously check a company’s financial results and business changes.
🔳 The focus for next week is whether Oriental Land’s rise will continue
Today, Oriental Land rose significantly following the upward revision and dividend increase.
However, just because it rose more than 8% in one day does not mean it will continue to rise next week.
There is also a possibility that profit-taking selling will occur.
The important thing is how much the market will continue to value this upward revision.
And NTT has its earnings announcement coming up on November 4.
I cannot take my eyes off next week either.
Still, to think that three stocks that were falling until yesterday would all rise together today.
Stock investment is truly difficult.
Perhaps that is why it is interesting.
