Stock markets closed today for Presidents Day?

    February 16, 20263 Mins Read

Today Floridians honor the birthday of the country’s first president, George Washington.

Held on the third Monday in February, Washingtons Birthday or Presidents Day celebrates Washington, plus Abraham Lincoln, other presidents, or all of them, depending on what state you’re in.

The federal holiday is still Washington’s Birthday. By the early 2000s, almost half of the states in the U.S. had changed the holiday’s name to Presidents Day on their calendars in honor of Washington and Lincoln or all U.S. presidents.

Gov. Ron DeSantis recently added George Washington’s birthday to the Florida state calendar for 2026 as part of America’s sesquicentennial.

Banks, government offices, mail delivery, schools and some businesses will be closed. Will stock markets be open?

    Here’s what to know.

    When is Presidents Day?

Presidents Day or Washington’s Birthday is commemorated on the third Monday in February every year. In 2026, that’s Monday, Feb. 16.

Washington’s actual birthday was Feb. 22, 1732. The holiday was moved as of 1971 to give federal employees a three-day weekend. Later, some states that had been celebrating Lincoln’s birthday (Feb. 12) combined the two into Presidents’ Day.
