    January 13, 20262 Mins Read

Domestic equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty opened lower on Wednesday, weighed down by persistent foreign fund outflows and firm crude oil prices. Despite steady corporate earnings, market sentiment remains fragile, with both indices declining in six of the past seven sessions amid concerns over US tariffs and escalating geopolitical tensions.

At 9:17 am, the BSE Sensex was down 105.22 points, or 0.13%, to 83,522.47 after falling nearly 319 points in early trade. The NSE Nifty declined 32 points, or 0.12%, to 25,700.30, after briefly touching a low of 25,638.35.

Among Sensex constituents, Asian Paints declined 0.78% to Rs 2861.90. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was down 0.63%, while Bajaj Finserv, UltraTech Cement and Sun Pharma fell 0.45%, 0.40% and 0.38%, respectively.

Asian markets traded mixed. At last check, Japan’s Nikkei 225 was trading 1.61% higher at 54,413.92, while South Korea’s Kospi dropped 0.17% to 4,684.89. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index climbed 0.84% to 27,073.85.

Wall Street ended lower overnight, with all three major indices closing in the red. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.80% to 49,191.99, while the S&P 500 dropped 0.19% to close at 6,963.74. The tech-savvy Nasdaq Composite edged 0.10% lower to settle at 23,709.87.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Sensex settled 250.48 points, or 0.30 per cent lower, at 83,627.69, while the Nifty declined 57.95 points, or 0.22 per cent, to end at 25,732.30.
