Benchmark indices ended the previous session in red, with BSE Sensex declining 329.91 points, or 0.44%, to settle at 74,529.08, while NSE Nifty fell 85.30 points, or 0.36%, to end at 23,329. Sensex had lost as much as 435.28 points, or 0.58%, during the session, touching 74,423.71.
Bajaj Finserv, Trent, Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma, Tata Consultancy Services and UltraTech Cement were among the major laggards on the 30-share index. Eternal, InterGlobe Aviation, Titan and Tata Steel were among the gainers.
The domestic benchmarks declined despite a positive global market trend and lower crude oil prices, with IT, financials and capital goods stocks weighing on the indices. Foreign institutional investors also remained sellers, offloading equities worth Rs 3,809.99 crore on a net basis.
