Stock Market Today LIVE: Sensex falls 200 points, Nifty 50 below 25,700; IT stocks drag, PSU Banks, metals shine

    February 17, 20262 Mins Read

Stock Market Today LIVE: The Indian stock market benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, opened marginally higher on Wednesday amid positive cues from global markets.

Sensex opened 102.63 points, or 0.12%, higher at 83,553.59, while the Nifty 50 opened at 25,752.65, up 27.25 points, or 0.11%. The Bank Nifty index gained 0.13% to open at 61,255.35 level.

Gains were seen in metals, banks, realty, and energy stocks, while IT stocks reeled under selling pressure.

Globally, Asian markets rose in a thin trade, with Nikkei rallying nearly 1% and most markets closed for the Lunar New Year holiday. The US stock market indices eked out gains overnight, supported by technology and financial stocks.

Geopolitical tensions seem to ease after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that Iran and the United States reached an understanding on main “guiding principles” in talks aimed at resolving their longstanding nuclear dispute.

Infosys, Bharti Airtel, Eternal, Dabur India, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), Dilip Buildcon, Bosch, Hexaware Technologies, Saatvik Green Energy and NDL Ventures are some of the key stocks in focus today.

    Gold, Silver Prices

Gold and silver prices on MCX opened higher on Wednesday amid short-covering, following gains in international bullion prices. MCX gold price opened higher by ₹1,885, or 1.24%, at ₹1,53,303 per 10 grams, as against its previous close of ₹1,51,418 level.

MCX silver price opened higher by ₹4,146, or 1.81%, at ₹2,32,929 per kg as against its previous close of ₹2,28,783 level.

In the global markets, gold prices traded flat after a two-day decline. Spot gold price was little changed at $4,880.18 an ounce, while Silver price fell 1% to $72.83 an ounce.
