The US stock market will remain closed on Monday, February 16, in observance of Presidents’ Day, pausing trading activity across major exchanges and fixed-income markets. Trading across the three key indices – the S&P 500, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq Composite — will be suspended for the federal holiday.
Both the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq will remain closed for the day. The US bond market will also not operate on Monday.
Trading activity is scheduled to resume on Tuesday, February 17, when investors will refocus on macroeconomic data releases, corporate earnings updates and global market cues.
Presidents’ Day, also referred to as Washington’s Birthday, is observed on the third Monday of February each year. It is one of the designated federal holidays during which US financial markets halt regular trading. While banks and government offices remain closed, most private sector businesses continue operations.

On Friday, the S&P 500 ended marginally higher, supported by easing inflation data. However, the Nasdaq closed lower as major technology and communication services stocks weakened amid continued concerns about disruption from artificial intelligence.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 48.95 points, or 0.10 per cent, to 49,500.93. The S&P 500 gained 3.41 points, or 0.05 per cent, to 6,836.17, while the Nasdaq Composite declined 50.48 points, or 0.22 per cent, to 22,546.67.
For the week, all three indices recorded declines. The S&P 500 fell 1.39 per cent, the Nasdaq slid 2.1 per cent and the Dow dropped 1.23 per cent, marking their steepest weekly losses since November, with technology stocks witnessing heightened volatility.
