Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Indian equities ended higher on Tuesday, with the Sensex rising 287 points to 77,656 and the Nifty gaining 116 points to 24,335. The market ended its first monthly series with the Closing Auction Session on a positive note, with the Nifty gaining 1.5% in the August series.
The Nifty ended above 24,300 after a last-hour surge helped the index recover more than 200 points from the day’s lows. The market closed at a two-week high, with ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries and L&T among the top contributors.
More than 35 Nifty stocks closed higher, with Adani Enterprises and Max Health among the top gainers. However, market breadth favoured declines, with the advance-decline ratio at 4:5.
The Nifty Bank slipped 12 points to 57,514, while the Midcap index rose 346 points to 64,163. The rupee’s favourable move and softer crude prices helped stocks such as Shriram Finance and IndiGo, which gained 2% each.
In stock-specific action, Vodafone Idea surged 8% on healthy volumes. Paytm gained 6% and closed above ₹1,700 per share for the first time in nearly five years.
Sources said Federal Bank may acquire a majority stake in Jana Small Finance Bank, with Federal Bank’s stock ending 3% lower. Hindustan Zinc slipped 2% despite DIPAM Secretary saying there would be no offer for sale in the near term.
Hindustan Copper fell 7% after the government’s OFS, with the non-OFS portion fully subscribed. IREDA rose 5% after a sharp move in the last hour of trade, while Angel One, IREDA, Laurus Labs and Indus Towers were among the top midcap gainers.
