    Sensex Off Day’s High, Up 400 Points; Nifty Below 25,000

    Stock Market Today: Equity benchmarks BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 opened on a positive note on Monday, May 26, tracking mixed global cues.

    At 1 PM, the 30-share Sensex index was quoting at 82,068.71, up 347.63 points or 0.43 per cent, while the NSE Nifty50 was hovering at 24,966.65, up 113.5 points or 0.46 per cent.

    Leading the gains on the Sensex were M&M, Tech Mahindra, Power Grid, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, NTPC, Titan, HCL Technologies, and Bajaj Finserv, with shares rising as much as 2.4 per cent.

    Eternal (formerly Zomato) was the only laggard in the index, slipping 2.8 per cent.

    In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices advanced 0.78 per cent and 0.88 per cent, respectively, during early trade.

    All sectoral indices were trading in positive territory, led by strong performances in the Nifty Auto index (up 1 per cent), Nifty Metal index (up 0.9 per cent), Nifty Pharma index (up 0.85 per cent), and Nifty PSU Bank index (up 0.7 per cent).

    Global Market 

    Asian markets advanced in early trade after President Trump extended the deadline for implementing 50% tariffs on EU imports to July 9, easing trade tensions. Japan’s Nikkei rose 0.7%, while the broader Topix added 0.53%. South Korea’s Kospi gained 0.7%, and Australia’s ASX 200 hovered around the flat line.

    In the US, stock futures edged up during early Asian trading hours, although US equity markets will remain closed today in observance of Memorial Day.

    On Friday, US indices ended lower across the board. The S&P 500 slipped 0.67%, the Nasdaq Composite declined 1%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.61%.
