Nifty tops 23,100, Sensex up 500 pts; IT, metal lead gains

    April 7, 20261 Min Read

Stock Market Highlights: Markets ended higher in a volatile session, with Nifty closing above 23,100 and Sensex gaining 500 points, led by IT, metal and realty stocks, while broader markets showed a mixed trend.

Indian equity markets closed in the green on April 7 after a volatile session, with benchmarks ending near the day’s high and extending gains for a fourth straight session. The Sensex rose 510 points to close at 74,617, while the Nifty advanced 155 points to settle above the 23,100 mark at 23,124.

Gains were led by IT stocks, with the Nifty IT index emerging as the top sectoral performer, supported by a more than 3% rise in Wipro. Metal stocks also advanced after JPMorgan upgraded Hindalco and Vedanta to ‘overweight’. Broader markets remained firm, with the midcap index gaining 108 points, while market breadth favoured advances with a 2:1 advance-decline ratio on the NSE.

Among stocks, Fortis Healthcare rose after IHH Healthcare’s stake hike plans, while Alembic Pharma gained on a USFDA approval. On the downside, Jubilant FoodWorks declined sharply on muted Q4 growth, while Dr Reddy’s andIndiGo also ended lower.
