Details on the NYSE, Nasdaq Closing Dates

    April 25, 20253 Mins Read

Whether you’re an active investor or simply keeping a close eye on your 401K, knowing when the stock market is open and closed is essential to tracking your money.

Primarily comprised of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations (Nasdaq),the U.S. stock market adheres to a strict holiday schedule throughout the year.

Trading occurs Monday through Friday, with the opening bell ringing at 9:30 a.m., Eastern Time, and the closing bell marking the end of the day at 4 p.m. Markets are closed on weekends and on certain holidays throughout the year, along with ending trading early on three occasions.

If you’re wondering when those stock market holidays and early closings are, you might be surprised to learn that they don’t strictly adhere to the 11 federal holidays that the U.S. government and financial institutions follow.

Though most of them align, a handful of holidays aren’t simultaneously observed by both the stock market and banks, making it important to have a working knowledge of both.

To help you keep track of when markets are closed each year, see below for a list of stock market holidays, a rundown of federal holidays, as well as early closing days and a list of the specific dates that the stock market will be closed or closing early in 2025.

    Stock Market Holidays

The U.S. stock markets close on 10 holidays throughout the year. See below for a list of which ones:

    • Good Friday
    • Memorial Day
