    The Greater Manchester town with soaring house prices named one of UK’s property hotspots

    A town in Greater Manchester has been named amongst the UK’s latest property hotspots as house prices have soared over the last year.

    Homes in the SK1 postcode area, which covers Stockport town centre, sold for an average of £234,415 over the last year – which has climbed by 24.4 per cent in the past 12 months.

    This is the largest annual increase of any postcode area in our region with 20 or more house sales.

    M6 (Claremont) is the next property hotspot in Greater Manchester. Houses sold for £232,240 each on average in the postcode area – which is 20.5 per cent more than a year earlier.

    That’s followed by OL1 (Chadderton) with an annual increase of 11.7 per cent, M12 (Ardwick) with an average of 11.3 per cent and WA15 (Altrincham) with an average of 10.8 per cent.

    Not only is Stockport the property hotspot of Greater Manchester, but it has also been named amongst the UK’s property hotspots.

    The Welsh postcode of LL61 is the property hotspot of the country. The postcode covers Llanfair­pwllgwyngyll­gogery­chwyrn­drobwll­llan­tysilio­gogo­goch – the longest name for a town in Europe.

    Average house prices in the area increased by 26.3 per cent in the year to the end of July and are now £293,901. It’s the largest percentage increase of any area where at least 50 sales have been made over the last 12 months.

    SY25, also in Wales, and WV2 in Wolverhampton, have the next largest annual increases with prices rising by 25 per cent.

    The 10 Greater Manchester areas where house prices are climbing:

    SK1 (Stockport): 24.4%

    M6 (Claremont): 20.5%

    OL1 (Chadderton): 11.7%

    M12 (Ardwick): 11.3%

    WA15 (Altrincham): 10.8%

    M21 (Chorlton-cum-Hardy): 9.9%

    BL7 (Bolton): 7.8%

    WN6 (Appley Bridge): 7.2%

    M40 (Collyhurst): 7.1%

    OL9 (Chadderton): 6.9%

    Meanwhile WN1, covering Haigh, has seen the largest drop in average house prices in Greater Manchester.

    Houses sold for an average of £192,365 in this postcode area in the 12 months to the end of July. That’s 15.9 per cent less than a year earlier.

    The M1 area, covering Piccadilly, had the next steepest decline with houses costing 15.6 per cent less than a year ago.

    That’s followed by M15 (Hulme) with an annual decrease of 13.2 per cent, M5 (Ordsall) with an average of 11.9 per cent and M3 (Manchester City Centre) with an average of 10.3 per cent.
