Property Franchise Group: Firm behind Yorkshire-founded Hunters hails record first half despite ‘subdued market’

The firm, which is behind Yorkshire-founded Hunters, posted revenue of £43.3m for the six months ending June 30, up seven percent on the same period a year prior.

This came alongside adjusted pre-tax profit of £15.5m, also up seven per cent on the previous year.

The group’s sales agreed pipeline stood at £44.6m at the end of the period, with second half completions up 2.5 per cent on the first half of last year. Property Franchise Group said this came despite a sales market which “remains subdued”.

Hunters, which is owned by Property Franchise Group, was founded in York in 1992 by John Waterhouse and now Conservative MP for Thirsk and Malton, Kevin Hollinrake. (Photo by Dan Kitwood/Getty Images)placeholder image

Gareth Samples, chief executive officer of Property Finance Group, said: “This has been another record first half for the group, delivered in a subdued sales market, demonstrating the resilience of our diversified franchise model.

“We maintained our managed portfolio at 149,000 properties whilst supporting our network through the implementation of the Renters’ Rights Act, and pleasingly, Privilege delivered £1.2m of revenue in its first full half year.

“Looking ahead, whilst the external environment remains uncertain, our diversified income streams and growing recurring revenue base give us confidence in delivering full year trading in line with market expectations.”

According to the latest UK Residential Market Survey from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the UK housing market remained subdued in July, with buyer demand and agreed sales showing little sign of a meaningful recovery.

New buyer enquiries recorded a net balance of -28 per cent in July, unchanged from June.

Although still firmly negative, the figure showed an improvement from the recent low of -41 per cent recorded in March.

Property Franchise Group is the parent firm behind a string of industry names including Belvoir, Fine & Country, Hunters, Lovelle and Martin & Co.

Hunters was first founded in York in 1992 by John Waterhouse and now Conservative MP for Thirsk and Malton, Kevin Hollinrake.

The company was bought out by Property Franchise Group in early 2021 for around £25m.

The latest results come after Property FraNeshiSe Group also acquired an 85 per cent stake in Smart Advice Financial Solutions Ltd (SAFS) in January of this year.

Mr Samples added: “We have continued to broaden the platform, acquiring SAFS, investing in Meridian and launching our first AI-enabled products. Each extends our reach across the property transaction lifecycle and, together with our strong cash generation and the resilience of our business model, supports the 10 per cent increase in the interim dividend.”
