Investment in China’s property sector fell by 20.6% year-on-year in January–September 2026, to 5.34 trillion yuan. This was reported by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The volume of new construction, measured by floor area, fell by 24.9% year-on-year over the nine-month period to 340.31 million square metres; residential construction, in particular, fell by 25.4% year-on-year. Property sales, measured by floor area, fell by 13.2% over the period.

It should be noted that Beijing has recently introduced a series of new measures in the property sector, covering the housing sales system, subsidies for mortgage interest payments and the rules governing the operation of the housing savings fund, with the aim of further stimulating demand for housing. This policy is intended to help revive the country’s property market.
It should be noted that steel production in China in January–September fell by 2.9% year-on-year, whilst pig iron output over the same period fell by 3% year-on-year.
As reported by GMK Center, in September this year, China increased its steel exports by 3.3% compared with the previous month, to 10.49 million tonnes. Compared with the same period in 2025, the figure rose by 0.3%. Between January and September, Chinese steelmakers exported 85.64 million tonnes of steel products, down 2.6% year-on-year.
