    Where On the outskirts of Ampney Crucis, a village and former Roman settlement which has a primary school and a pub. The market town of Cirencester is a 10-minute drive away.

    Why The property has numerous outbuildings including a utility room, workshop, store rooms, a garage, four stables, and nine acres of land.

    Why The stud farm has a lucky track record, having been home to Brigadier Gerard, said to be Britain’s finest racehorse of the 20th century, and 1988 Grand National winner Rhyme ’n’ Reason.

    Where Upper Lambourn, surrounded by downland gallops and right in the heart of the Lambourn Valley, famed for its racehorses. It’s 6 miles from the M4 motorway, the main route towards central London (from 2 hours) and Heathrow airport (from 1h 10m).

    Why The house was built in the 1930s by the 7th Earl of Sefton, racehorse owner and chair of the stewards of the British Jockey Club. It’s next door to a training yard and thoroughbreds can be seen being put through their paces in the surrounding area.

    Where At the end of a lane, about a mile from the village of Loxhore. Exmoor Park is 4.5 miles away. Barnstaple is 20 minutes’ drive, and it’s just over half an hour to the beach. 

    Why The paddock has been planted as a native woodland with oak, beech, birch and rowan trees, and a mown path weaving through it. There’s a bridle path across part of the property for riding out.
