Diane Keaton’s multi-million-dollar property empire she ‘overhauled’ alongside acting career

    October 14, 20253 Mins Read

Diane Keaton, who died on 11 October aged 79, may be most known for her acting prowess, but the Hollywood legend was also praised for her work as a director and producer, and she even turned her hand to photography. But did you know that The Godfather star was also a real estate mogul? Away from the big screen, she worked tirelessly to seek out properties to flip and over the years she even made money from fellow celebrities as she sold them on. All the details below…

She clearly had a real passion for renovating homes, and she even penned a book entitled The House that Pinterest Built about her own home interiors and how she crafted them with inspiration from the board-led website and app. The book became a bestseller and has 4.3 stars from over 400 reviews on Amazon.

    Diane Keaton’s property empire

Diane’s money-making projects have included her beloved $28.9 million Los Angeles home, which was up for sale but interestingly taken off the market two weeks before the star’s death. The property is a five-bedroom, seven-bathroom building and the interiors were inspired by Diane’s former NYC pad. The Annie Hall star has revealed that the brick house purchase struck a chord with her because of The Three Little Pigs story she would have read to her as a child.

“Unadorned lighting, commercial windows, and a neutral palette give Keaton’s home an industrial feel,” Architectural Digest says about the home.

Diane also spearheaded a Pacific Palisades transformation that she parted ways with back in 2010, but her first ever project was the Samuel-Novarro house, according to realtor.com. ” She overhauled the home, taking steps to carefully restore much of the original work, before selling it just five years later,” the publication reported.

One of Diane’s homes, a $6.5 million mansion in Beverly Hills, was even sold on to pop icon Madonna in 2000. The Spanish-style casa was home to Madonna for just four years before she sold it on, too.

She was inspired by her own real estate agent father, and the actress told the Wine Spectator: “I always had an interest in homes and the concept of home, but the problem is I never really land and stay.” She never shied away from a project, even selecting dilapidated properties to transform over the years. Flipping homes seems to be a popular side hustle for many Hollywood stars, providing a secondary income stream. It can prove to be extremely lucrative and is a pastime for stars like Ellen DeGeneres, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Aniston.

While details of Diane’s death have not been revealed, a friend of the star recently told People: “She declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her”. The friend went onto explain that her death was very “unexpected” and that “even longtime friends weren’t fully aware of what was happening”. The actress has previously spoken out about a family history of cancer, but her cause of death remains unknown.
