CHILLICOTHE – The City of Chillicothe announced Phase II of the Sidewalk Repair Program.
Well-maintained sidewalks improve the appearance of neighborhoods and increase property values.
As defined by Chillicothe Codified Ordinance 903.01, property owners are responsible for the maintenance and repair of faulty or defective sidewalks, curbs and gutters abutting their property. The Sidewalk Repair Program provides supporting funds to share the costs of sidewalk maintenance and repair with the property owners.
Following the success of last year’s program, city contribution amounts have been adjusted to align with the available budget. The city will contribute 50% up to $1,000 for sidewalk repairs and 50% up to $2,000 for projects that must include curb and gutter.
Applications are due by Sept. 20, and project approvals will be issued by Sept. 27.
- Projects will be approved based on the necessity of repairs.
- All work must be performed by a private, bonded contractor registered with the City of Chillicothe’s Building Department. Residents are encouraged to get multiple contractor estimates. Work must be performed in accordance with the City’s Standard Specifications, which can be in the ODOT Construction and Materials Specifications sections 608 & 609.
- Any tree removal associated with the curb and/or sidewalk repair is the responsibility of the property owner. Participants must coordinate with the Tree Commission (740-774-1185) to determine tree removal and replacement.
