Alicante, located on Spain’s eastern coast, has been named the most desirable location for a holiday home by British buyers, according to research by leading UK property investment company ERE Property.
The company analysed more than 1,000 episodes of the Channel 4 programme A Place In The Sun, finding that Alicante featured as the preferred destination in 60 episodes—more than any other location.
Helen Mercer-Jones, managing director of ERE Property, said: “Brits have had a love affair with Spain ever since package holidays existed, and this data shows just how popular the country continues to be, with more episodes on Andalucia alone than Portugal, Italy, Greece and the US combined.”
The province also offers daily direct flights from Leeds Bradford Airport, making it just three hours away.
Other Spanish destinations rounding out the top five include Almeria, Costa Del Sol Occidental, Malaga, and Murcia.
The only non-Spanish location in the top ten was Faro in Portugal, which ranked eighth.
Andalucia was the most popular region overall, followed by Comunitat Valenciana and the Canary Islands.
