    Webinar on basics of commodity derivatives held at MPM GFGC Karkala

    Karkala, Sep 28: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Department of PG Studies in Commerce, and Commerce Association of MPM Government First Grade College, Karkala, in collaboration with NCDEX, organized a webinar on “Basics of Commodity Derivatives” on September 27.

    Dr Priya Agrawal, financial market trainer & TEDx speaker, served as the resource person. In her session, Dr Agrawal elaborated on the types of commodities – agro and non-agro – and the agricultural ecosystem, highlighting the importance of farmer participation in the commodities derivatives market.

    The webinar also covered key concepts such as derivative products, the moneyness of options, market terminologies, and the role of different market players. Dr Agrawal emphasized the regulatory role of SEBI in safeguarding investors, while also cautioning against dabba trading practices. She highlighted SEBI’s Saarthi initiative, designed to improve financial literacy among market participants.

    The session proved insightful for students, offering a comprehensive understanding of the commodities market and its role in the Indian economy. The programme was presided over by principal Dr Suresh Rai K, with coordination by Vinay M S (IQAC coordinator), Louis Manoj Ambrose (coordinator – Commerce Association) and Dr Avinash (PG coordinator).
