Live: Nifty extends fall to 4th day; Aug AMFI data in focus | Closing Bell
Markets witnessed a choppy session on the weekly expiry day, with the Sensex and Nifty ending largely flat. The Nifty fell for the fourth straight day and remained below the 23,450 mark, while market breadth stayed weak as declines outpaced advances. The Nifty IT index extended its losing streak to the seventh consecutive day, and the Bank Nifty slipped 300 points from the day’s high, with the majority of sectors trading under pressure. Brent crude surged to $102 a barrel, gaining around 6% so far this week. In global markets, TSMC reported record monthly revenue, rising 10% from July and marking its fourth consecutive month of revenue growth. Dow futures gained ahead of two key US inflation reports due tomorrow, including the August Producer Price Index and CPI data. US Treasury yields remained elevated despite the Treasury announcing a $6 billion buyback of long-dated debt. Asian markets were mixed, with the Nikkei gaining 0.2% and the Kospi slipping 0.2%. Among Nifty 50 stocks, Power Grid, HDFC Life and Bharti Airtel were the top gainers, while HCL Tech, Hindalco and Tata Steel were among the biggest losers.
