- Gold’s breakout above key technical levels signals renewed bullish momentum after weeks of consolidation.
- Central bank buying and easing Fed hike expectations continue supporting gold prices.
- Screening identified seven financially strong mining stocks with attractive upside potential.
has broken decisively higher after several weeks of consolidation, climbing to an intraday high of $4,363.6 per ounce yesterday, its highest level since June 17. The move follows a consolidation phase that began in late June, itself preceded by a correction that started in March.
Several factors have combined to support the rally. Hopes for an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz have eased concerns over energy-driven inflation, while markets have lowered expectations for a in September. The implied probability of a hike fell to around 57% from 67% a day earlier, weakening the US dollar and boosting demand for gold.
Central bank buying continues to provide long-term support. According to the World Gold Council, central banks added 51.1 metric tons of gold to their reserves in June 2026, with China extending its buying streak to a twentieth consecutive month.
From a technical standpoint, the latest rally reinforces the bullish outlook. Gold had already generated an encouraging signal by breaking above a key descending trendline on the daily chart, and the latest advance strengthens that breakout.
Yesterday’s rally also pushed gold back above its 50-day moving average, a closely watched technical indicator. After acting as support through March, the moving average had turned into a key resistance level during the recent correction. Reclaiming it strengthens the technical outlook and adds another bullish signal to the market.

Specifically, these gold stocks show upside potential ranging from 13.1% to 30.4% based on Fair Value and from 11.1% to 136.1% based on analyst consensus.
Among these stocks are:
-
is not a gold miner, but it offers complementary exposure to the broader metals cycle. In the second quarter of 2026, the aluminum producer reported record revenue of $3.97 billion, while adjusted EPS came in just below consensus expectations. Although management trimmed alumina production guidance following operational issues at its Pinjarra refinery, it continued to strengthen its long-term growth strategy through the acquisitions of South32’s upstream assets and AliGroup. Analysts remain constructive on the stock, with average price targets implying double-digit upside.
-
also provides indirect exposure to the precious metals theme. While primarily a zinc producer, the company is generating a growing share of earnings from silver, gold, and copper by-products. Its second-quarter 2026 results exceeded expectations, with net income climbing to $98 million, adjusted EBITDA rising 78% year over year to $286 million, and zinc production increasing 8%. Despite the recent rally, valuation models and analyst targets continue to suggest additional upside from current levels.
However, the other stocks on the list are much better suited for betting on a rise in gold prices, while also offering greater upside potential according to analysts and fair value estimates.
