UK construction company falls into administration as customers get major update

    July 19, 20262 Mins Read

Agile Property and Homes, an Oxfordshire-based construction company specialising in affordable homes UK-wide, has entered administration after seven years of trading, according to filings on The Gazette

A British construction firm specialising in affordable housing has collapsed into administration after seven years in business. Oxfordshire-based Agile Property and Homes appointed Moorfields to handle the administration on July 6, according to filings published on the public register, The Gazette.

Established in 2019, the firm designs and builds low-carbon modular homes for those in housing need, utilising sustainable materials such as timber and straw.

Based at Lockwood Farm, Culham, they construct traditional to contemporary properties ranging from one to three storeys. “Our mission is to help end the challenges of the climate emergency and the housing crisis,” the company’s website states.

“We put people and planet first, delivering person centred design while minimising environmental impacts.”

According to its most recent accounts for the year ending June 2025, directors acknowledged the company had net liabilities of £1.8million, as recorded on Companies House. But, at that time, the report stated that the “company’s pipeline of projects remains strong”, reports the Express.

However, administrators have now been brought in, which typically occurs when a company encounters serious cash-flow difficulties and can no longer service its debts. The administrators would typically devise a financial restructuring strategy to save the company, which might involve selling it to an independent third party.

However, if the business couldn’t reasonably be rescued, the administrator could work towards securing a better outcome for creditors than through liquidation, potentially by disposing of assets.

Agile Property and Homes hasn’t publicly disclosed the reasons behind entering administration, though numerous construction sector firms have taken the same route in recent months.

Back in March, major employer Caldwell Construction Ltd, which operated from sites in Warrington and Stoke, cited escalating costs and “market uncertainty” for its administration, putting 400 jobs in jeopardy.

Paul Smith from accounting firm PKF Littlejohn Advisory UK said: “The construction sector has faced challenging trading conditions over recent years, including increasing costs, delays to schemes and wider market uncertainty.

“These pressures were exacerbated at Caldwell, placing significant strain on cashflow and operations.”
