Finance fraudster admits stealing thousands during vehicle sales

    April 10, 20262 Mins Read

Benjamin Ambrose, 44, of Malory Close, Tadpole Garden Village, pleaded guilty to four counts of theft by false representation, two counts of theft and one count of dishonestly failing to disclose information to make a gain at Swindon Crown Court on Thursday, April 2.

The first of these offences took place on September 7, 2022, when Ambrose sold a vehicle to a man but failed to disclose that it had outstanding finance on it, which he was under a legal duty to disclose, with the intention of making a financial gain for himself.

On November 16, 2022, he sold another vehicle to a woman for £37,880.40 but provided false updates regarding its build progress.

Then on August 15, 2023, he committed fraud by making a false representation about being the lawful owner of a vehicle to obtain money from Haydock Finance, to the value of £21,498.90.

Between November 21, 2023 and March 28, 2024, he used this same excuse about the build progress for a vehicle purchased by a different customer for £66,612.

Ambrose stole the proceeds of the sale of a vehicle between February 13, 2024 and April 30, 2024, worth £53,195.25, and repeated this on May 5, 2024, to the sum of £63,995.

The 44-year-old admitted to committing fraud again on August 2, 2024 and taking £25,452 from a woman who had ordered a vehicle from him.

Ambrose has been remanded on conditional bail, and he is due to be sentenced at Swindon Crown Court on Tuesday, September 15.
