China ‘Firmly Opposes’ USTR Probe Into Its Compliance of Trade Deal

    October 24, 20251 Min Read

Beijing on Friday pushed back against the U.S.’s Section 301 investigation into whether China has complied with the terms of a trade pact reached in the first Trump administration. The announcement was the latest tit-for-tat on the eve of officials from both countries meeting in Asia to de-escalate recent tensions.

In a statement sent to Barron’s, Liu Pengyu, a spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Washington, D.C., said China “firmly opposes the US’s false accusations and related investigation measures” and said that the country had “scrupulously fulfilled its obligations” in the Phase One trade deal, protecting intellectual property, increasing imports, and expanding market access.
