MinterEllison Guides Urban Utilities’ Billion-Dollar Plan

    September 10, 20252 Mins Read

The program will see Urban Utilities work side-by-side with three partnership groups to deliver its multi-billion-dollar capital investment strategy over the next decade, aimed at providing long-term savings for customers. Contracts have been awarded as follows:

    • An Integrated Services Provider contract to WSP in Australia and Aurecon under a joint venture
    • Two Delivery Group contracts to Downer and Stantec, and Fulton Hogan with a joint venture between SMEC and Mott MacDonald

The initial contract period awarded to partners is five years, with the option for a three-year extension, followed by a two-year extension.

NG4D is a critical step in shaping a resilient and sustainable water future for the region, driving innovation and efficiencies in the delivery of critical water and wastewater infrastructure, while responding to population growth, ageing assets and more frequent extreme weather events.

MinterEllison advised Urban Utilities on the development of the program and contracts and supported all aspects of procurement, contract negotiation and finalisation.

Commenting on the program, David Pearce, MinterEllison Partner, said: “This program represents a bold and forward-thinking shift in how water infrastructure is delivered. We worked closely with Urban Utilities to develop balanced, flexible and collaborative contracts that promote early engagement and risk-sharing, ensuring the network is future-ready. With a strong focus on innovation, sustainability and collaboration, we’ve supported Urban Utilities in laying a strong foundation for the construction of high-quality water and wastewater infrastructure for South East Queensland.”

The MinterEllison team was led by David Pearce (Partner, Construction), supported by Vanessa Mellis (Partner, IP/IT), Katie Beshara (Partner, Insurance and Corporate Risk), Charlotte Gordon (Senior Associate, Construction), Hazal Gacka (Senior Associate, Construction), Lochlan Andrew (Lawyer, Construction) and Abhishek Rishi (Lawyer, Construction).
