Southeast Gas has been named one of Site Selection magazine’s 2025 Top Utilities in Economic Development for the second consecutive year, according to a release.
According to a release, Site Selection evaluates utilities across the country based on the number of projects within their service area, the jobs and capital investments tied to those projects and survey feedback on resourcessuchaswebsites, datatools, programsandincentives.
This year, Southeast Gas is one of only 22 utilities nationwide to receive the honor.
“It’s an honor for Southeast Gas to be named one of the nation’s top utilities in economic development for the second year in a row,” said Southeast Gas President and CEO Greg Henderson. “At our core, we are here to serve. We provide reliable energy while helping communities grow and thrive, and this recognition belongs to our employees, whose dedication and care for the people we serve make a significant impact on our region.”
In 2024, Southeast Gas played a direct role in projects that created nearly 8,000 new jobs across its service area. Among those efforts was the Coffee County Landfill project, where the company partnered with NextEra Energy to commission Alabama’s first renewable natural gas facility. The initiative generated 40 new jobs and advanced Southeast Gas’ long-term sustainability goals.
“This recognition highlights the power of partnerships in economic development. Southeast Gas is proud to work with other Alabama utilities and agencies to support strong communities across our region,” said Southeast Gas Director of Economic Development Vince Perez.
Beyond job creation, Southeast Gas invests in education and community growth. In 2024, the company awarded $1,500 scholarships to 25 graduating seniors at public high schools and provided $133,000 in funding across 20 school systems. The Southeast Gas Economic and Community Development team also distributed $164,000 in Community Betterment Funds to 14 communities and guided nine communities through SEEDS Round 2 applications, which resulted in $14.47 million in grant awards. These included four development grants and five assessment grants to further strengthen local economies.
