This weather this weekend is set to reach hights of 25 with glorious sunshine throughout.

    • Finding and fixing over 800 leaks a week, thanks its dedicated leakage teams, advanced systems, and satellite technology – and the public reporting them.

July has been ranked the fifth warmest on record. August has brought back drier conditions and the fourth heatwave of the summer.

The UK is experiencing a nationally significant water shortfall, with the prolonged dry weather having a real impact on water resources across the UK, UU say.  Officially a drought has been declared.

In the Pennines, the levels in those reservoirs that supply water  homes in the area are now under 40 per cent full at 37.9 per cent, compared to the usual 71 per cent at this time of year.

More: The park with winding paths, wildflowers, ancient trees and a river walk

And United Utilities bosses are urging people to realise that ‘every drop counts’

The following tips have been issued for customers to save water:

    • Fix dripping taps and leaking toilets – a leaky loo can waste 200-400 litres a day

    • Leave your lawn as grass is resilient and will bounce back when it starts to rain

    • Use a watering can instead of a hosepipe and direct the water at the roots

    • Install a water butt so when it rains, collect it for your garden

    • Delete old emails and pictures – data centres use vast amounts of water to cool their servers and by reducing the amount you store, you’ll reduce the amount they use. Over time, deleting just 1,000 emails could save a whopping 39 litres!

Matt Hemmings , chief operating officer of United Utilities, said: “ Thanks to everyone who has already made changes to help save water.  Please continue to reduce, reuse, and recycle water wherever you can.

    “Every drop counts!”

Schools in the area can book a FREE water saving visit. Groundwork will check for leaks on taps and toilets – and fix them for free!

United Utilities said: “It’s a great way to help schools save water, energy, and money. If you’re connected to a local school, spread the word!”
